Picture quality

UE48H6670 installed and ready to go

UE48H6670 installed and ready to go

This large TV has a fantastic HD picture with vivid colours and deep blacks, and looks absolutely stunning. Non HD channels are however really beginning to suffer, probably simply down to the physical size of this TV.

HD: Excellent. Sharp contrast, bright colours, deep blacks, no noticeable frame drop or stutter. Fantastic quality for a TV of this size and price.

Standard definition: the size of this TV really shows up the intrinsic poorer quality of SD channels – a full HD subscription is a must!

Sound

Surprisingly rich and good dynamic range. Considered pairing it with a soundbar, but it honestly doesn’t need it for ordinary TV viewing, although I would suggest this would be a benefit for watching movies.

Build Quality

UE48H6670 initial setup

UE48H6670 initial setup

This TV oozes class as soon as you take it out fo the box. Solid, stylish and tastefully un-flashy, it will look good in any environment. The set-up is straightforward and well designed – you will be up and running and connected to your TV feed within a few seconds, and even connected to the internet to access the SMART features within a few minutes.

This TV comes with an extra SMART remote controller that includes a mouse pad. This is a nice little feature and means you can actually use the internet features such as the browser without the usual hassle of messing about with pointer controls.

A solid 5 out of 5.

Smart TV features

Smart TV features

Connectivity

4 HDMI ports, 2 SCART, 3 USB ports and all the usual other stuff, all located in an easy to access position on the back right of the TV. Using the HDMI cable to connect to our TV input offered the nice feature of displaying the name of the input on that HDMI channel – no more guessing between HDMI1 and HDMI2 when switching between devices!

Smart Features

Like it’s smaller brother, This is where this TV really comes into its own. The Smart features include the usual stuff such as the BBC iPlayer, Channel 4 On Demand, ITV Player and the Channel 5 player, but the real winner (again like it’s smaller brother) is the inclusion of subscription services such as Netflix and even Amazon Movies, all via the SMART button the remote controls. These feature are not included in other TV makes (although you can access the services via a browser). It’s such a great feature of the Samsung range.

The”SMART” button on each remote initially opens up a border at the bottom of the screen showing you the last few SMART features you used, which is a fantastic feature. It couldn’t be simpler and should even be appropriate for an older user who perhaps does not feel comfortable with the SMART features.

If you are looking for a SMART TV then I honestly doubt you can do better that this. 5 out of 5.

3D

This TV also comes with full 3D and two sets of 3D glasses. As with the UE40H6670, it seems to work well, but as I am not a fan of this technology I very rarely (if ever) use it.

Installation

UE48H6670 connectors

UE48H6670 connectors

Due to its light weight and standard fixings, the Samsung proved a very easy television to install onto its own mounting stand which looks slick and sophisticated. Overall it took approximate 20 minutes to unpack and install. The TV is light enough for one person to set it up, despite its size.

The various connectors are all logically groups, there are LOTS of the, and they have all been placed in reachable positions on the right hand side.

The network installation is virtually automatic, I’ve installed this with a direct connection to my internet router and it really could not have been more easy to get this SMART features up and running.

Overall a very easy TV to unpack and setup.

Value for Money

At the time of writing this TV cost £499 from Amazon. For the quality of picture and sound provided this is excellent value. The Smart functions, together with 3D means that this television provides excellent value for money.

Picture quality

Bright colours and excellent contrast in HD mode

This TV boasts a “full HD picture”.  When connected to Freeview, it delivers a fantastic HD picture, the colours are bright and vivid, and the image is sharp.  A great picture for dramas, comedies and even sport whcih can sometimes be the achilles heel of LED TVs.

Playing DVDs also produces an incredible picture, I;ve honestly not seen any better than this, I was amazed a TV that costs this much would rpoduce such a good picture.

However in freeview, some standard definition channels look foggy and fuzzy. This is likely to be due to the bandwidth they have been allocated on the Freeview system rather than the TV, since the mainstream channels such as BBC, ITV, C4 etc. look absolutely fine in standard definition mode.

HD: Excellent.  Sharp contrast, bright colours.

Standard: Excellent on the larger channels (Freeview), noticeably worse than the old CRT TV it replaced on some of the less popular channels.

Access to the TV’s ports is relatively easy even when the TV is mounted to a bracket

Sound

No complaints but nothing to write home about.  Perfect adequate for a TV of this size.

Build Quality

This TV feels solid and well built.  The screen quality looks like it belongs to a hight quality TV.  Superb.

Connectivity

3 HDMI ports, SCART and a USB port.   When placed on a wall we found the WIFI connectivity to patchy, but that is probably due the router (or the placement on the wall was in a flat spot).  Fortunately this TV comes with a good old fashioned network connector, so I was able to hard wire it using a cheap TP-Link powerline connector to the router.

Smart Features

This is where this TV really comes into its own.  The Smart features include BBC iPlayer, Channel 4 On Demand, ITV Player and the Channel 5 player.  However tehre are a host of other feature built in, including the pay services such as Netflix and Hulu.

A special “Smart” button on the remote fires up the smart features, and it is a joy to use.  It really couldn’t be simpler and should even be appropriate for older user who perhaps do not feel comfortable around this sort of technology.

3D

This TV also comes with full 3D and two sets of 3D glasses.   It seems to work as well as any other 3D system I have tried but that about as far as I can say.

Installation

Samsung 40 inch LCD TV installed on a wall bracket

Due to its light weight and standard fixings, the Samsung proved a very easy television to install, and fixing it to a wall  can be considered a “one man job”.  The images her show it installed using a flat bracket on a chimney breast.  Overall it took approximate 90 minutes to unpack and install.

Seamaster 300m Chronometer

Omega Seamaster Diver 300M Review

Ladies Seamaster

Omega Seamaster Diver 300M Co-Axial

Omega Seamaster Diver 300M

The watch featured here is the gents automatic.   A ladies version is also available.

This exquisite watch is actually a chronometer, the Diver 300M Co-Axial is a marvellous timepiece for any occasion.

A full 80 years after the very first diver’s watch from Omega, the Seamaster collection of timepieces is still highly acclaimed by men and women alike. The design of this Seamaster Diver 300M is  based upon a timeless classic from 1957.  As a fully certified divers’ timepiece that can be used within depths of 30 bar (300 metres), Omega has also equipped the Seamaster with a helium escape valve, allowing it to function in even the most demanding of environments.

Presentation

Omega watches are genuine luxury items, so it’s no surprise that the timepiece is presented in a real leather box, lined with silk.  It honestly is an absolute delight to unveil this watch from the confines of its beautiful packaging.  The boxes can sell on eBay for £200 withpuit a watch, so you are buying something special here.

Timekeeping

What do you expect form a chronometer?  Omega watches (specifically the Speedmaster) were worn by Apollo astronauts outside of their spacesuits on the moon.  These watches are rated for pressures of 300 meters.  They keep perfect time!

Bracelet & clasp

Clasp

This heavy duty clasp will not not let you down

Although favoured by James Bond, this watch is actually a fully functional divers watch, and the steel bracelet and clasp reflect this.  Made from surgical grade steel, the two-tone (brushed and polished steel) bracelet looks fantastic.  The clasp is a serious piece of hardware and is almost impossible to open without you operating it.  This is not a watch you are going to lose on a boozy night out – it is not going anywhere.

Aesthetics

This is an amazing looking watch.  It’s just beautiful.  Look at it, it’s simply stunning.

Value for Money

These watches have gone up enormously over the past ten years, so the Seamaster loses points here.  It’s a shame because at around £1200 these watches were an attainable luxury to most working people, but they have now become much more exclusive since you will be lucky to find one below £2300 at current prices.
